Mascot Books and Krissy (the author) contacted me to see if I'd be interested in doing some character test sketches about a paw paw fruit named Piper. After reading the story, I thought it sounded like a lot of fun and went right to work discovering the character of Piper. I wanted to find a concept that really put the focus on the fruit while still giving each fruit their own character details and personality. Once a good concept was discovered and Piper was introduced, I sketched and illustrated the story.

It was a lot of fun working with Krissy. She had ideas for each page, but was completely open to other creative possibilities. In the end, through lots of collaboration, the finished book was created and turned out great! Not only is it a fun story with dancing and music, it also teaches readers about the little-known paw paw fruit.
